Golomein: Quick Review

I’m always on the hunt for easy dinner ideas. After all, no one likes cooking after a long day of work/classes. Golomein Noodle House, located South of Edmonton, specializes in Brunei noodles and rice dishes. They’re known for selling convenient frozen meal packages in stores and in various farmers markets. I knew I had to try it myself when another food blogger, Sharon, raved about this place. Check out her blog post for a more in-depth review!

Golomein is a dry mix noodle dish. The noodles are cooked separately and then mixed with marinating sauce. Trust me, you won’t be missing out on the traditional broth. The sauces are a pack of flavour on its own. The concepts of quick, easy, and delicious was surely in place.

back – chicken satay, front – BBQ pork

The best seller is shanghai noodles topped with BBQ pork, ground pork, and bok choy. You’d be missing out if you get it with rice instead of noodles! Ground pork and BBQ pork were both luscious. It’s great how each dish contained bok choy to bring it all together.

My main concern with the chicken satay was the moisture in the chicken after being in the microwave. Surprisingly, not only did it retained its juiciness, it came with a burst of nutty flavours from the satay sauce. I’m not normally a fan of sweat sauces for savoury dishes but this was a nice balance of sweet, tangy, and savoury.

Prices range from $12.95 for the regular size and $17 for the large. Keep in mind that the large is only available for purchase in stores. Frozen packages are also available for $55 for 5 packs of regular portions. I felt very full with the large and would’ve been content with the regular.

It feels like I haven’t blogged in so long even though it’s only been little over a month. I honestly just haven’t tried anything new that I felt worth writing about. If I lived even a little closer to Golomein, I’d be here almost every week. I can’t believe it took me this long to try it! I was always tempted by the farmers market but didn’t think the regular size would actually fill me up. If you love easy home-cooked food without the actual cooking, this is definitely a must try. Hope you enjoy this (very) short review!
