Destination Doughnuts

If you haven’t heard about the new sweet spot in Edmonton yet, you’re in for a treat. Destination Doughnuts opened just last week on 124 Street. Although it’s tucked away west of 106 Ave, this small shop isn’t hard to find. There’s also a parking lot so parking is quite easy.

There is approximately 10 doughnut flavours available, and it changes seasonally.

I opted for the flavours:

  • Today’s feature – mint chocolate
  • Blueberry white chocolate
  • Chocolate overdose – chocolate injected, dark chocolate ganache, spun with white chocolate
  • Ode to Sunshine – lemon filling, toasted meringue
  • Triple play – dark chocolate, salted potato chips, caramel drizzle
  • Snickerdoodle – meringue cloud topping, cinnamon sugar blend

Each doughnut had their own unique taste and a similar texture. The mint chocolate donut was light and fluffy, without any of the glaze weighing it down. Blueberry white chocolate was more dense in texture but had a light flavour. Chocolate overdose is just as the name speaks — overdosed with chocolate and injected with chocolate pudding. Not overly sweet as you’d expect either since the dark chocolate balances out the sugar. Triple play and ode to sunshine were my favourites due to their unique and light taste — similar to a cake! Triple play was more of a savoury than sweet donut. Snickerdoodle wasn’t my cup of tea since I’m normally not a fan of sugar donuts.

blueberry white chocolate — look at how dense it is!

It’s a close call between Destination Doughnuts and Doughnut Party — both incredibly soft and addicting. The real question is, which one is better?

Doughnut Party has a slightly better texture, consistency, and flavours. Destination Doughnuts is less sweet, which I normally prefer; however, it costs $0.50 cents more. Doughnut Party still wins my heart. Destination is good, but not good enough to go out of your way for.
